Biography of James Groome
Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, James moved to Alberta at the age of 19 with the hope of discovering what he wanted out of life. Out of work and living on his own for the very first time, he began what would become a very active volunteer career for Calgary's Shaw cable. Upon his very first day in the fascinating field of television production, he had an epiphany - He had discovered the industry he would work in for the rest of his life! Over the next 3 years he would continue the relationship with Shaw cable, functioning mostly as a contracted television director where he worked on over 700 shows, with over 300 of those going live to air!

After signing up for the "Cinema, Television, Stage and Radio" program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, he was picked as 1 of 15 people who were selected for the program out of more than 400 applicants. Immediately upon graduation, he became the first video editor hired for Calgary's A-Channel, and found himself taking on various roles in the workplace as that station struggled to get on the air in the fall of 1997. Before long, he was editing their "special projects", and also became a production assistant to the directors and producers for the newscasts - all the while maintaining his status as one of their top news editors as well. He continued in this capacity for 2 years, and found that he was ready for more than just daily news programming.

In the fall of 1999, he departed Calgary and took up a position as a full time video editor at "The Banff Centre for the Arts" in Banff, Alberta. This idealistic and fascinating setting expanded his skills exponentially, and his natural talent for working with visuals was recognized and nurtured. After a year or so, it was apparent that his abilities were beyond mere video editing, and the Banff Centre appointed him as a producer / director for several high profile projects. Additionally, he was able to learn sound editing, advanced Photoshop techniques, DVD production, and video effects compositing.

In the summer of 2003, James moved to Ontario and began working in the Toronto television industry. Currently, he works as a broadcast designer at Quebecor's SUN TV.
